A RARE .44-40 (WIN) LEVER-ACTION REPEATING RIFLE, MODEL 'COLT-BURGESS', serial no. 607,
manufactured between 1883 and 1885, with re-blued (faded) octagonal 25 1/2in. barrel, traces of an London retailer's stamp (** & SONS 130 WEST STRAND LONDON), nickel blade fore-sight, buckhorn rear-sight, stepped flat-sided receiver with later gilding, rounded top and ejection port, external hammer, top-tang with provision for aperture sight, walnut butt-stock with crescent heel-plate fitted with a central sliding trap-door (small losses at toe), blued finger-lever marked 'BURGESS PATENTS', walnut fore-end (old split right hand side) with gilded nose-cap and full-length under-barrel magazine tube
